French Business Challenge
In February 2015, six keen and confident Year 10 French learners took part in an event at the Girls’ High School organised by Business Language Champions.
The pupils worked with representatives from schools across the East Midlands to practise the language of business and marketing. Working in teams of six, the pupils had to market Stilton cheese abroad. They had to design and make a trade stand, design a flyer for the cheese, research trade fairs and finally make a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style pitch in French to buyers from the supermarket Lidl.
Useful Business Skills
It was a very enjoyable and useful day. Not only did pupils get to use their French in a real context, they also experienced some of the other skills from the business world, such as:
- keeping to strict deadlines,
- thinking on your feet,
They also met some successful business people who use their language skills every day in their professional lives, such as a buyer for Toyota in Derbyshire who buys car parts from all over Europe, and a representative from HSBC who works in Spain and France with HSBC affiliates.
