Visit to Faithful+Gould
On Wednesday 3rd July six students from Years 11-13 visited the offices of Faithful+Gould for a series of workshops. The workshops covered Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Project Managing, Environmental matters and Health and Safety.
David Pick, the director of the Nottingham branch, hosts the day. He and a number of staff introduce the various areas of work the company is responsible for and the students take part in tasks, either individually or as part of a team. The day was shared with students from George Spencer, and the students worked well together.
Perseverance and Motivation
The most useful part of the experience was hearing about the quite different routes into the company, some employees coming from degree backgrounds in Fine Art or from the construction industry. The message from David was that perseverance and motivation are key qualities to possess, and a desire to get on. The students also gained a real insight into the kinds of tasks they might undertake on a daily basis, again, very useful.
Thanks must go to David and his team for being generous hosts and for encouraging the students to see a future in this industry.
