Year 8 Boys Handball County Success
The Trinity Year 8 Boys Handball Team became County Champions at a competition on February 8th.
Having been successfully crowned City Champions in December, the team represented Nottingham City at the County Finals at Nottingham University.
The team will now go on to represent Nottinghamshire at the Midland Finals in May.
The Trinity team started strong, winning all of their group games against Brunts, Rushcliffe and Joseph Whitaker to finish top of Group B.
The Quarter Finals saw Trinity battle through a tough game against Outwood Academy from Group A to reach the semi-finals. A couple of shock results in the quarter and semi-finals saw Ashfield and Carlton Academy, two of the tournament favourites, beaten and out of the competition. This left the original teams from Group B left, with Trinity beating Rushcliffe once again to set up a final against Joseph Whittaker.
The final was 12 minutes of relentless end-to-end attacking as both teams struggled to break down the opposition's strong defensive back lines.
Joseph Whittaker took a 1-0 lead on 3 minutes and Trinity were denied on numerous occasions by the framework of the goal and outstanding saves from the Whitaker goal keeper. Joseph Whitaker were having great success in their game plan to stop Trinity's (and the tournament’s) top goal scorer.
Finally, on 8 minutes, after remaining patient and picking the correct plays, Trinity equalised. The pressure then took its toll as Joseph Whitaker tired and Trinity scored twice more to finish the game 3-1 winners and County Champions.
It was a fantastic team performance. Well done boys!
